Atletico Madrid go in to the international break having climbed a mountain that seemed impossible at the start of the season. They sit at the top of the league, have the top scorer and have conceded just two goals.
"We continue to upset". That's the phrase that Diego Simeone has used on a number of occasions. The methodical and fesity coach is working to make his side the best in Europe, and at the moment, is succeeding.
After a summer of upheaval and doubt, Atletico have reached the top of La Liga with two more points than at this stage last season, although they hadn't reached the top of the table back then. After their victory over Valencia and Real Madrid and Barcelona slipping up, Simeone's men are sitting pretty at the top of the table.
The positives don't end there. The 'Double G' - Griezmann and Gameiro - have formed a lethal partnership with Griezmann topping the goalscoring charts in La Liga with six goals. Jan Oblak is also way out in front to win the Zamora award, having conceded just two goals in the competition.
Atletico may have taken a while to get started, but are now top of the pile and everything remains in their hands.
